INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY - The living city in the context of the contemporary concepts of cultural heritage
Plovdiv 2019 Foundation would like to invite you to take part in the practical seminar and discussion INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY - The living city in the context of contemporary concepts of cultural heritage.
The Forum is planned for 20th of June /Tuesday/ from 1 pm till 5 pm in the town of Plovdiv and is aiming to present new and unusual views towards the contemporary urban archaeology in Bulgaria, with which to broaden perspectives and fields of research and practical work for both students and experts.

The forum aims to bring together representatives from the Departments of Archaeology and Restoration and conservation in Universities from Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, the National Academy of Fine Arts, University Of Architecture, Civil Engineering And Geodesy, NBU as well as to a broader circle of associates.
Guest speaker will be Emmanuele Curti, archeologist and cultural manager, after having studied in Perugia, in 1992 has moved to London, working in UCL and Birkbeck College for 11 years, and then to University of Basilicata. His archaeological research has been concentrating on aspects of Romanization of Italy and digs/projects in Pompei and Jordan. In the last past years, his interest has shifted towards politics/economies of cultural heritage, and the transformation of humanistic disciplines. He is involved with projects on digital culture, gamification, open data, etc. and collaborates with Matera 2019. Here is a handout of the here prepared by the speaker for the event.
The Forum on the 20th June will be divided into three parts: The first, led by representatives of the team of Plovdiv 2019 Foundation, will give insights about the European Capital of Culture Initiative and will give detailed information about one of its flagship projects “The Tobacco City”. The second part, led by Emmanuele Curti and translated into Bulgarian language, will set the informative and practical basis for the development of the theme of the Industrial archeology in the contemporary urban context and the specifics in the interaction with the cultural heritage. The third part, aiming to provoke the active exchange of opinions and positions, will be an open discussion in which the participants in the forum will have the opportunity to discuss thematic topics, issues and thesis. The summarized results of the discussion will be published in the communication channels of Plovdiv 2019.
The participation in the Forum is with free entrance and preliminary registration till 16th June. Please fill in the registration form. There will be a translation in Bulgarian Language for those who will need it. Each participant will receive a Participation certificate.
FORUM 2019 is a flagship project of Plovdiv 2019 Foundation and includes a series of seminars and other capacity building and educative events with a focus on Plovdiv’s title as European Capital of Culture (ECoC). The topics, presented and discussed on FORUM 2019, are closely related to the Plovdiv ECoC 2019 programme and aim at stimulating professional debate and experience and knowledge exchange in the cultural and arts sector in Bulgaria.
