Trade Centre „Mall ADT“on Ivan Vazov Street, Plovdiv, Bulgaria
The Trade Centre “Mall ADT” is a reconstruction project of an existing building located between three streets in the city centre of Plovdiv. This location has maximal advantages considering the foot traffic, the logistics and the delivery of the products. The neighborhood is famous for its unique flair, due to its old tree rows and its dominant large buildings from the beginning of the XX century, once used as storehouses and nowadays being as ensemble under monumental protection.
The new Trade Centre building is one of these protected monuments and the project aimed to keep and reconstruct its historical appearance. The concept of the planning is to create inside an impression of one open space with “floating” shopping areas like “cores” in it. This central space includes the development and the recreational zones. The development itself is an important element of the building. It is not straight, on the contrary it swings through the levels like once the streets in the ancient bulgarian trade neighborhoods, still preserved in the town of Ploviv. This theme of mixing history with contemporary interference continues in the interiors, where parts of the old existing brick walls are deliberately exposed. The whole central space has natural light, due to its roof openings. These basic ideas give the trade centre a specific ambience.
