ARCHITECT KIRIL TODOROV DELEV

(1934 – 2007)

  • 4 january 1934  born in Sofia
  • 1952 graduates with honour the High-School for Construction „Hristo Botev” – Sofia
  • 1959 graduates with honour the Architectural Faculty of  ЕCI - Sofia
  • 1959 – 1960 works as designer in Kustendil and Hranproject - Sofia
  • 1960 – 1980 works consecutively in IDA Glavproject and the Municipality of Tunisia (1966 - 1969).  Participates in designer groups of arch. Kalin Boyadzhiev, Hristo Kovachev and Nikola Nikolov.
  • 1980 – 1985 manages Directorate Urbanization and Directorate Territorial programming and urban planning in the headquarter of Architecture and Urbanisation of Capital People’s Council
  • 1985 – 1988 Vice Director and Manager of Unit Design of Scientific Research and Design Institute
  • 1988 – 1991 Manager atelier in SRDI Interproject of the International Academy of Architecture (IАА) and part-time Assistant of Chair Public Buildings - HIAC (1988 - 1989)
  • 1991 – 1994 Manager department in  National Centre of Territorial Development and Residential Policy
  •                         
  • 1994 – 2007 freelancer, Manager atelier
  • 10 May 2007 ends his earthly and artistic journey at age of 73-years

 ARTISTIC PERIODS

 1959 – 1960   Initial steps in the field of residential construction and urbanization projects. Accomplishes individual residential buildings and residential block in Kjustendil.

 1960 – 1966   Participates in the groups of arch. Kalin Boyadzhiev and arch. Hristo Kovachev in Glavproject. Participates in urban projects (collective) for: Kiten – the Resort Atliman; Sandanski, Bansko and Belitsa – Constructive plans; Vidin – conceptual and constructive plan of the entrance and centre area. Accomplished: Kiten – Recreation base of Kirkovo region – Sofia and Complex for Non-ferrous Metals(KCM) – Plovdiv; Vidin – Complex for Domestic Services and Svishtov – Students’ dormitories (collective). 

1966 – 1969   Works in Tunisia  – municipality, wins an international contest for the city centre of Tunisia, under the management of prof. arch. Lyuben Tonev. Designs and accomplishes residential buildings.

1969 – 1980   Again in Glavproject in the group of  arch. Nikola Nikolov in cooperation with arch. Atanas Agura, Chrito Koev, Lilyana Nikiforova and Constantine Antonov. Urbanization projects: Burgas – Master urbanization plan and Burgas – Centre (responsible of the project); Veliko Tarnovo – Master Plan; Residential complex Pishmana – CRPlan and accomplished project (Manager collective); Veliko Tarnovo – Reception building of the City Peoples’ Council; Art Museum (Master Designer). Accomplished projects: Elin Pelin– Dormitories.

1980 – 1988   Managerial positions, with less engagement in desgn. Accomplished projects: Kiten – expansion and reconstruction of KCM – Plovdiv. International contest participation.

1988 – 1991   Return to active design activity – IAA: Sofia – RC Mladost 1 – Public centre, RPlan  extention and correction in two versions; Sofia – Relaxation and Rehabilitation Centre in RC Mladost 1 (Master designer); Plovdiv – Children Cultural Centre – tobacco warehouses reconstruction (Master designer).

1992 – 1994   Main specialist and expert in participation in the preparation of normative documents and legislation. Accomplished projects: Residential building of Bigla street, Lozenets.

1994 – 2007  Activities as freelancer – urbanization projects of quarter-construction plans. Residential design: Residential building with office section, commercial section, art gallery, offices on Constantine Stoilov street, Commodity Station; Residential block on Buzovets street, Lozenets. Accomplished projects: Sofia – Residential building on Dimitar Hadzhikotsev street, Lozenets; Group construction on Arsenalska street, Lozenets; Residential buildings with offices, shops and garages – on 24, Gladston street in the Central urban area (CUA); on 4, Dobri Voynikov street in CUA and on 28, Gladston street, CUA.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Arch. Kiril Delev actively participates as an expert and jury in many national contests. He works as a member of the Regulatory Committee of BAU and participates in different legislative changes of the Territorial and Urbanization Planning Code, the Territorial Planning Code and the Copyright and its Related Rights Code. He is a presenter in the National Artistic Conference with the topic The Living Environment Created by the Human Constructions with his abstract Specifics of the Architectural Design.

Arch. K.Delev actively participates in the activity of the Bulgarian Architecture (BАU) as a member of the management. He was Vice Chairman of the City Society of Urban Sofia of BAU and member of the Urbanists Club.
